Liturgical catecheses
in the Year of Faith

Before the great feasts of the Church in the Year of Faith, Deacon Krzysztof Porosło and Fr. Tomasz Grabowski OP invite you to catecheses on the theology and liturgy of each feast. Each solemnity is connected with a particular mystery of faith and should also have an impact on Christians’ lives. The catecheses will show the connection between faith, everyday life and the liturgy.

We prepare for the feasts

We present full recordings of all the catecheses held in this series during the Year of Faith, in St. Thomas Hall of the Dominican Friary, 12 Stolarska Street, Kraków.

Catechesis before the Solemnity of All Saints

We recommend a very positive, though still too rare, phenomenon: a pastoral tandem formed by a Dominican – Tomasz Grabowski OP – and a deacon – Krzysztof Porosło. “Saints and angels in the liturgy” was the subject of their next lecture, given just before the Solemnity of All Saints and the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed.

Catechesis before Advent

In the second catechesis, entitled “On the Word and the voice”, Fr. Tomasz Grabowski and Deacon Krzysztof Porosło looked at the liturgy of Advent: its history, theology and the practical living of this season.

Catechesis before Christmas

In the third catechesis, entitled “On the Cross and the manger”, Fr. Tomasz Grabowski and Deacon Krzysztof Porosło spoke about the liturgy of Christmas: its history, iconography and the three Masses celebrated on that day.

Catechesis on the Epiphany

In the third catechesis the speakers focused on the three mysteries celebrated on the Solemnity of the Epiphany: the adoration of the Magi, the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan and the wedding at Cana in Galilee. This catechesis, however, exceptionally took place in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows – at the Dominican Sisters’ at Gródek.

Catechesis on the Paschal Triduum

In the sixth – two-part – catechesis, entitled “On the passage from death to life”, the speakers spoke about the most important time in the liturgy – the Paschal Triduum. The meeting is part of the series of liturgical catecheses we organized in cooperation with the Mysterium fascinans retreat community as part of the Year of Faith.

Catechesis on Pentecost

In the eighth catechesis, entitled “On our sanctification”, Fr. Tomasz Grabowski OP spoke about the liturgy of the Vigil of Pentecost according to the third typical edition of the Roman Missal – from which the readings and collects (prayers) that formed the framework of this penultimate catechesis were taken. The catechesis was a theological introduction to the whole solemnity.

Catechesis on Corpus Christi

In the catechesis entitled “On bread and wine”, Fr. Tomasz Grabowski OP and Fr. Krzysztof Porosło spoke about the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, drawing on the text of the Roman Canon and referring to biblical types and the mosaics depicting them.

Catechesis on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross

Fr. Tomasz Grabowski OP and Fr. Krzysztof Porosło gave a special liturgical catechesis on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross on the eve of the feast, during the 6th Mysterium fascinans liturgical retreat held on 13–15 September 2013 in Kraków.

“Living the liturgy well means uniting your life with the faith you profess. Such a union makes it possible to celebrate faith and life in the liturgy. This is what we learn in the catecheses”

Tomasz Grabowski OP

Co-leader of the catecheses
