Into the Depths of the Liturgy

We invite you to read and discuss together “The Spirit of the Liturgy” by Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI). We will meet on selected Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at St. Giles’ Church in Kraków.

We look forward to seeing you at St. Giles’ Church below Wawel Castle

On selected Mondays from October 2026 to June 2027, Fr. Łukasz Miśko OP, the director of our Center, will lead a shared reading and discussion. At 7:30 p.m. we invite you to the parish room of St. Giles’ Church (67 Grodzka Street, Kraków) to spend about 90 minutes over coffee and tea learning from the author and from one another how to let the liturgy shape our lives. Afterwards, for those who wish, sung Compline in the beautiful, recently restored St. Giles’ Church.

We encourage participants to get their own copy of the book.

Reading together?

Do you ever read books with someone else? Aloud, pausing after a paragraph or two, listening together to what the author is trying to express and what resonates a little differently in each reader? Books about ideas in particular, about complex, many-layered realities, open up their riches more easily when they are read and discussed in community.

What will we read?

This year we have chosen Pope Benedict XVI as the guide for our search. While still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, he wrote the now classic book The Spirit of the Liturgy. With his help we will discuss topics such as liturgy, cosmos and history, time and space in the liturgy – including the question of the direction of liturgical prayer – and we will also ask about the role of the body and of art in experiencing the liturgy.

„As we read, we want to ask the important questions the author raised, but also our own questions about the shape of the liturgy and its meaning for our lives”
